United Press Association —By fc.leet.ic Telegraph Copyright Received January 16, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, January 15. The Worth-Eastern Steel Works, Middleborough, have closed owing to the lack of coal. Two thousand men are rendered idle. The miners' dispute ia crippling the Teeside iron trade. Several factories in Northumberland have also closed, refusing to pay higher prices for their coal. The strike is resulting in increased activity in the German collieries, the Weatphalian mines benefiting by large orders for factory coals ordinarily placed in England.

THE NEWCASTLE STRIKE. ! BALLOT OF NORTHERN MINERS. SYDNEY, January 15. Though the ballot of the Northern miners is not yet completed, it is known that the miners will reject the Wages Board by an overwhelming majority. A belief is current —stengthened by Mr Bowling's reitreated assurance that a settlement is near —that when Mr Bowling appears before the Industrial Court on Monday to present the result of the ballot, he will submit a scheme for the establishment of a Board of Conciliation. It now appears that the first shipment of imported coal will not reach Sydney till the 23rd inst.
