SACING. TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland"). The Wellington Summer Meeting opens on Saturday next, and there is every reason to expect it to be one of the most successful yet held on the Trentham convincingjjjrounds. In the matter of the racing most interest naturally centres in the Wellington Cup and Railway Handicaps, for which nineteen and fifteen acceptances have been received. In the principal event, for which the stake money is 1,000 sovs. Several of the leading owners of the Dominion are represented. All Red, the winner of two Auckland Cups, will carry Mr St. John Buckley's colours; Husbandman is the select of Sir George Clifford's team; Ringdove will bear the yellow jacket of Messrs G. L. and W. G. Stead; Mr T. H Lowry will start Downfall; Mr E. J. Watt, Muskerry; Mr Monk pins his faith to Diabolo; Mr J. H. Prosser. Lady Medallist; and the Hon. J D. Ormond, Bollini The other horses to enter the mile and a-half contest are Roosevelt, Merrivonia, Waipaku. Crucmella, Sir Antrim, Paisano, Moloch, Equitas, Kopu, Osiris and Chauvehn. Judging by the double cards Equitas may start for the Telegraph Handicap instead of the Cup, but the rest of those named should see the post unless they are unable to see out the Cup preparations now being undergone. At the present time the race undoubtedly bears a very open appearance. The best performers over the distance this season are All Red, Roosevelt, Merrivonia, Diabolo. Ringdove, and Sir Antrim, while Downfall, Bollin and Muskerry ran well up to a mile and a-half or over in the Auckland Cup, and Waipaku, Crucinella, Paisano, Moloch and Lady Medallist should be found equal to running out the distance. The two for the Telegraph Handicap are Armlet and Kilindini. In the Railway Handicap at Auckland the latter, carrying 7.7, beat Armlet 9.2 by a neck. Kilindini now meets the Menschikoff mare on seven pounds worse terms. Tumut, last year's winner, has the steadier of 9.4, but may be depended upon to run well. Others that will be in strong demand are Equitas, Sunbonnet, Pull Sail, and Gipsy Beile. Training work at Trentham during the next few days should throw some light on the chances of most of the performed s.
