J. C. WILLIAMSON'S NEW DRAMATIC COMPANY.
Box plans for "The Cheat,".which is to be presented at the Town Hall, Matserton, on Monday night next, are now open, and filling rapidly at Miss Rive's. "The Cheat" ia a new play to local theatregoers, and is described as a 'spectacular military drama of high standard. Of the re cent Sydney production a contemporary writes:—"The reception of "The Cheat" last night by a large audience saould leave little doubt as to it's success. The new play was freely punctuated with applause. Mr Thomas Kingston has all the vigour and spirit for the adventurous episodes, and the straightforward ardour for the love scenes. The latter Miss Ethel Warwick invests with charm of sincerity, and a most winning presence., Mr Geo. Titheradge as General Blanchard, gives another of those clear cut portraits we have come to look for from him. The performances of Messrs Harry Plimmer, Cyril Mackay, Eardley Turner, A. E. Greenaway, Lewis Waller, junr., and other ladies and gentlemen of the lengthy cast are spoken of in terms of the highest praise, while the scenery, dressing, etc., are said to bea revelation of stage craft and lavish management.
