THE NEWCASTLE STRIKE.

DISTRESS IN COBAR. WAGES BOARD ACCEPTABLE.

There is much distress in Cobar owing to the stoppage of „work or shortening] of bands [in the copper mines as the result of the coal strike. The Government has been asked to start relief works. From present indications it is expected that the majority of the miners' lodges at Newcastle and Maitland will ..- support the Delegate Board's being represented on the Compulsory Wages^Board. Mr P. Bowling, President of the Miners' Federation, addressing a meeting at Kurrikurri, warmly attacked some of the leaders old Strike Congress,'adding: "But now they had got rid of the traitors, and the proprietors were so sick of the fight that many of them were willing to give in." "Eventually," added Mr Bowling, "the Congress, although perhaps not able to obtain all their demands, would secure an honourable and peaceful settlement." Three important Newcastle miners' lodges have adopted the Delegate Board's recommendation against being represented on the Wages Jttoard.

ENGLISH MINING CRISIS.

DURHAM EXECUTIVE DENOUNCED.

Delegates representing fifty thousand Durham miners have resolved to ask all miners in the country to cease work immediately until an eight hours' agreement has been satisfactorily settled.

In the course of a heated discussion a delegate strongly denounced the executive of the Durham Miners' Association.
