WRECK OF THE WAIKARE.
VERDICT OF COURT OP ENQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 13. The Court of Inquiry into the vvaikare wreck delivered its decision at 2.30 o'clock to-day. It found that Captain Newton exercised every care in navigating the vessel in D.:sky Sound; that the vessel waß fully equipped, and that she struck on an unchartered rock. The court was of opinion that no blame whatever was attributable to the master. The court places on record the splendid achievement of Captain Newton, and the discipline and promptitude of the officers' order in lowering the boats and placing the passengers safely and attending to their comforts, and afterwards in doing their utmost to save the vessel, and prompt manner in which the Union Company despatched relief. The return of the master's certificate was ordered.
