RED TAPE.
For some time past there has been a reluctance on the part of officers of the Agricultural Department to divulge any i»form«ition, as the result of instructions from headquarters, and this reluctance has now developed into absolute refusal to give the slightest detail of news to a newspaper representative, says the "Auckland Star." How long this farcica. condition is to be enforced it is impose:b.e to say, but those responsible for it are assuredly going the right way about minimising the usefulness of the department, and ev n nullifying e work of its experts. The restriction is one under which officers of the Agricultural Department are chafing, and whicH can-
not be tolerated. by the* people who pay for the upkeep of such an expensive department as that which is maintained primarily for the purpose of assisting agriculture and spreading knowledge of the beat methods of up-to-date farming.
