PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. The annual meeting of the Forty Mile Bush Athletic Society will be held at Ramua on Saturday evening. At the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening auctioneers' licenses wree granted to Messrs W.' E. Collins, O. C. Cooper, T. Boyd and P. E. Debreceny. The warm rains which fell last night and this morning will have a beneficial effect on the grass and root crops of thisjjdistrict. The winds we have experienced here of late has started to dry up the place, and many dairy farmers were quite ready for the rain. The Hamua Anglican Sunday School held its annual picnic last week, and also a social in the hall in the evening. Both gatherings were well attended, and a very pleasant time was spent by all present. The condition of Mr Alex. Reese, who is in the Pahiatua Hospital, is still very serious. No theatrical companies are visit ing Pahiatua d uring the race meeting. The Pahiatua County Council have fixed the dog tax for the ensuing year, the same as the Boiough Council, viz., 2s 6d for sheep and cattle dogs and 10s for all other dogs.
