WRECK OF THE WAIKARE.

OFFICIAL ENQUIRY

By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 12. The Waikare enquiry began this morning. The outstanding feature of Captain Newton's evidence was that the list the vessel took after touching the rock was the cause of his landing the passengers so quickly being afraid she might capsize. He said that if he could have kept the vessel going ten minutes longer he could have beached her in a safe place, and hive saved her.
