MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon. Mr G. C. Summerell presided, and there were also present Messrs Bland Rayner, W. Cooper, C. F. Vallance, A. G. Pilmer, J. D. Cruickshank, J. B. Moodie, 0. C. Cooper, H. Morrison, W. Perry, J. C. McKillop, A. J. Stone-Wigg, W. D. Watson, E. Harper, K. J. Dagg, LW. J. Welch, T. P. Lett. J. P. Perry and J. N. James. FINANCE COMMITTEE. Following is the report of the Finance Commictee: —Dr balance December 10th, 1909, £4,917 17 sd; expenditure for the month, £54 16s sd; receipts, £65 9s 6d; balance, £4,907 4s 4d. Accounts totalling £63 4s 7d were passed for payment. The report was aaoted. I GROUND COMMITTEE. The Ground Committee reported as under: —It was resolved to offer for sale the various privileges in connection with the show. The chairman reported that the dead trees in the j eastern fringe of the Sol way bush had been split into strainer posts and battens. Messis G. C. Summerell, W. Perry and H. Morrison were ap- : pointed a sub-committee to deal with the plans for the Sol way Showgrounds and buildings.—The report was adopted. A letter was received from the secretary of the Canterbury A. and P. Association, seating that it had been decided that the conference to discuss the frozen meat trade should be held in the Association's rooms in Cbristchurch on January 27th and 28th, commencing at 1 a.m. The chairman said that the matter was one requiring the very serious consideration of growers in the Dominion. They heard from time lo time from people who had visited the Old Country how our meat was treated there, and it seemed tojhim that combined action was necessary to control and regulate the supplies and see that our produce was properly marketed. 1
Mr Morrison was aiso or the opinion that a representative should be sent and moved that Mr W. Perry be appointed. Mr Perry stated he would not be able to get away, and suggested instead Mr W. E. Bidwill.
It was resolved that Mr Bidwill be asked to act as representative; it being left to the chairman to appoint someone else in the event£ofaMr*Bidwilfnot being able to act. '
£Mr H. Welch, of Faki Hawke's Bay, wrote suggesting mat a wire fence jump be included in the Hunters' Competition at the forthcoming show. —Mr 0. C. Cooper moved that the suggestion be given effect to. The motionswas_seconce3 by Mr Vallance and carried. The following stewards Jwere appointed Judges' receiving steward, Mr G. Watson. | Mr Lett asked why the sheep had j been placed before the horses in this
year's programme. The secretary explained that the entries for sheep usually came in early, and they were able to get theni entered in the programme in good time, whereas the horse entries generally catne in late and under the old system it became necessary to ad 3 so many late entries. The idea was being carried out in Auckland and Palmerston North.
On the motion of Mr McKillop it was decided that the harnessing competitions be placed between the champion jumping and consolation jumping competitions on the programme.
