THE THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.
g During their three months' run in i Masterton Messrs Thompson and Payne have presented many sterling ' programmes, and that presented on Saturday night is not one whit be- J hind the otners. The patronage ao corded to this popular entertainment • has grown to Buch dimensions that ; the management are finding great difficulty in providing accommodation. Mr John Payne, the general manager, will be in Masterton within the next few days to supervise several alterations necessary for the growing attendances. The new programme presented is well worth seeing, and the star picture "Resurrection" is a really startling piece of rea)istic cinematography, and is treated on very broad lines. The action of this film is placed in Russia, and a Prince is the causa of the fall of a trusting Russian peasant girl. The poor unfortunate passes through many vissicitudes, and is finally transported to Siberia. It is a most pitiful sight to see the gangs of victims of Russian despotism wending their cheerless way through the dreary Siberian snow-covered wastes. After many years the Prince happened to meet his victim, and so appalled is he at her appearance that he repents and securing her pardon offers her marriage, which she refuses, preferring to minister to the wants of her fellow exiles. "Modern Training" is a film to which additional interest is added owing to the actors being Mdme. Marzella and her husband. These magnificent 1 performers toured New Zealand about ' three years ago with Mr Harry Kickards' Vaudeville Company. The humourous subjects are as usual well to the fore, and genuine laughter 1 reigned at the comicalities of " the 1 Lover's Telegraph Code, ""The Deacon's Love Letter," and "Tom's , Prize."-This programme will be re- £ placed on Wednesday by an entirely new collection.
