SOUTH AFRICA DEFEATS ENGLAND.
Received January 6, 9.40 a.m. CAPETOWN, January 5. In the First Test Match against South Africa at Johannesburg, the English team in the second innings made 224 runs, bringing their aggregate up to 534. The South Africans won by 19 runs. Thompson, in the Englishmen's second innings, got 63 runs. He made a great effort to save the game, and was the last man out. Vogler and Faulkner took all the wickets, Vogler securing thirteen for 181 and Faulkner seven for 160. Simpson-Hayward, in the first innings, captured six South African wickets for 43. Faulkner, for the African team, showed brilliant form with the bat, getting 79 in tha first innings and 143 in the second.
VICTORIA DEFEATS SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
Received January 6, 11.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, January 6. South Australia in their second innings made 223 (S. Hill scored 58 and Quist 24); Victoria thus won by 81 runs.
