LIBERAL BEQUESTS.
Received January 4, 8.20 a.m. LONDON, January 3. The late Professor Ludwig Mond, tne eminent chemist, and managing director of Brunner, Monet and Co., subject to his wife's life interest, bequeathed to the Royal Society, London, £50,000 for the endowment of research in natural science,£so,ooo to the University of Heidelberg for similar objects, £2,000 to the Munich Academy for the promotion of arts, £20,000 for pensions or occasional assistance to Brunner, Mond and Co. 's aged and disabled workmen, and £20,000 to charities at Cassel, in Germany. Also subject to his wife's life interest and certain conditions as regards housing and exhibition, Professor Mond bequeathed to the British National Gallery fifty-aix valuable pictures. His collection consists chiefly of works of the Italian School. The pictures left Dr Mond to the National Gallery include "The Crucifixion," the famous work of Raphael's boyhood, which was bought at the Dudley sale for 10,600 guineas.
