WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY.
By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGI ON, January 3. The Wellington-Canterbury cricket match was resumed to-day in excellent weather. The wicket was in capital rin-getting order. The local team made 171 runs Before the last wicket fell. Showing to good account Roberts top-scored with 31, Upham had 26 to his credit, and Hickey 9 not out Reese was the most successiul bowler for the visitors, getting 4 wickets for 40 runs. T. Carlton, Watson and Addison each saiured two wickets. The Southerners failed miserably with the bat in the second strike, eight wicKets 'ailing for 60. Boxshall and W. Carlton more than doubled the score before they were separated. The innings finally closing tor 129 runs (W. Carlton 56 not out, Boxshall 19, Reese 13. Upham captured 6 for 52, Hickey 3 for 37. The Wellington fielding was clean and sure throughout, while Upham trundled steadily.' The batsmen found a difficulty in negotiating him. Hickey also bowled well before the partnership of Boxshall and W. Carlton. Wanting 81 to win Wellington easily accomplished the task, having nine wickets in hand when the winning stroke was registered. Midline and Hickson were unbeaten with 40 and 32, respectively to their credit.

In the First Test Match, at Johannesburg, between South Africa and the visiting M.C.C. team, South Africa's first innings closed for a total of 208. England has scored 147 without the loss of a wicket-Hobbs .77, Rhodes 65.
