THE NEWCASTLE STRIKE.
CO-OPERATIVE MINERS RE SUME WORK.

The strikers' co-operative mines at Newcastle will probably resume work to-morrow, the difficulty with regard_to the strike levy having teen overcome. The aggregate tonnage of the shipping lying at Newcastle awaiting coal is 142,225 tons. MELBOURNE, January 3." The steamer Zambesi has arrived here with five thousand tons of Japanese coal. Manufacturers are almost at their wits' end this week to get sufficient coal to carry on operations.
NOTICE TO TERMINATE CONTRACTS.
Received January 3, 11 a.m. LONDON, January 2. The South Wales miners, with a "view to negotiating for a settlement, have given notice of termination of their contracts in March.
