EAST COAST SPORTS.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. (Special to the Age). [^ beautiful weather conditions, excellent entries, and good management were tha ideal conditions under which the eighteenth annual sports meeting of the East Coast Sports Club was held at Hoimwood yesterday. The attendance was very large, and the liberal prize money offered —£7o—attracted the leading athletes in the Wairarapa. The general arrangements for the meeting were in the capable hands of Mr E. Lennie, and the able manner in which his arduous duties were carried out was the subject of general congratulation. The other officials were:—Handicapper, Mr C. Kummer; starter, Mr R. Mcßae; timekeeper, Mr D. Walsh, and Mr F. Evans was in charge of the horse events. The special prize for the most points in the East Coast Handicap was won by E. Mackersey (Masterton), 5 points, J. H. Berry (Masterton), 4 points, being secouti. All the events attracted considerable attention, particularly the horse events, in which competition was exceptionally keen. The sports were supervised by an energetic committee, to whom the success of the gathering in no small measure is due. The catering was in the hands of a strong ladies' committee, whose efforts were much appreciated. The results were as follow: FOOT EVENTS. 150 Yards Maiden—A. E. Schofield 1, K. Te Huki 2. East tioast Handicap—First distance, 100 yards: P. Holmes 1, E. Mackersey 2, E. Nitz 3. Second distance, 220 yards: E. Mackersey 1, Bunny 2, J. H. Btrry 3. Third distance, 440 yards: J. H. Berry 1, T. Harrod 2, E. Mackersey 3. Fourth distance, 880 yards: C. Taylor, 10yds, 1; T. Harrod, 20yds, 2; J. H. Berry, scr, 3. High Jump-Hodge 1, Nitz 2, Bunny 3.
