From Our Resident Reporter. Tuesday. Mr W. W. Mansfield, whose premises are next door to those gutted by fire on Monday morninc, has donated a guinea to the funds of the Fire Brigade. The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held last evening, Bro. P. Ashton, A.D., presiding. One brother was declared off the sick fund. One friend was proposed for initiation, and one candidate initiated. Receipts for the meeting amounted to £9 lis sd, and disbursements to £lO ss. Miss Merlett, who has been appointed teacher at the Matarawa School, received a beautiful silver teapot and set of pretty salt sellers on leaving the Ponatahi School, from the children and their parents. The prize distribution of St. Mark's Sunday School took place last evening, the Rev. R. Young presiding. Mr Jas. Brown presented the awards, j which were of a beautiful nature. One scholar —Ronald Wakelin has just about established a Sunday School record by having an uninterrupted attendance of four and ahalf years. At a meeting of the School Committee last evening, a sub committee consisting of Messrs J. Callister, T. H. Hughes and J. M. Nicholls, were appointed with the Headmaster (Mr Burns) to confer asjto the erection of a miniature rifle range. The Headmaster i-eported 252 on the primary roll, the average being 231. There were 29 on the secondary roll, the average being 28. An appropriation of £3OO in connection with the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society will take place by sale on January 6th.
