PAHIATUA NEWS.

Tuesday. The Pahiatua Boy Scouts intend to go into camp shortly. The Scarborough footpath between the Railway Station and the Borough, winch has proved such a boon to the residents, is in need of repair in several places. The half-yearly meeting of Lodge Mangatainoka, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was held at Mangatainoka last evening. The elecliun of officers resulted as follows: —N.G., Bro. W. Palmer; V.G., Bro. R. W. Williams; Permanent Secretary, Bro. W. Taylor; Elective Secretary, Bro. S. Luke, and Bro. H. H, Godfrey was nominated for Deputy Provincial Grand Master. Ordinal y quarterly business was transacted and the meeting adjourned until January 3rd, 1910, when the installation of officers will take place at the Pahiatua Lodge Room. The Scarborough School picnic, which hitherto has been held before tha holidays, will take place this year at the close of the summer vacation.
At the farewell smoke concert to Capt. McAlister in the Olympic Theatre, last evening, were rendered by Lieut. Wallis, and Messrs J. Mills, senior, C. Clifton, B. Mills, C. Mills, S. Moore, A. Moore and F. Cosford; recitations by Messrs Geo. Oxley, H. Thomson and D. Wilton, and Mr J. Mills, senior, danced an Irish Jig. Messrs D. Crewe, C. Clifton, T. Hewat. Richardson, H. Pearcey and Capt. McAlister, spoke on matters relative to the Fire Brigade, and Mr H. Pearcuy, who was Captain of the Brigade in the early days, gave an interesting account of the days when there was only a bucket brigade. Various toasts were proposed and duly honoured, one being the "Wairara'pa Age and the Pahiatua Runner, Mr Pryor Gilbert.'* Good wishes were expressed for the future ■w-Ifare of Capt. McAlister and family, and a very enjoyable evening eroded with the singiner of "Auld Lang Syne." .At the social last evening, Capt. McAlister urged upon the Borough Council to make better accommodation at the Brigade Shed for the benefit of the members who attended every evening. The Mayor, who presided, agreed with the speaker's remarks, and stated that if it was possible something would be done very shorly in the matter. It is understood that through representations made to Mr R. B. Ross, M.P., the people of Palmerston North and Dannevirke will be enabled to visit the Mangatainoka s>portg and return on the same evening through a special train running "frotn'--Woodville .'-'<6-Maifgaisiirioka on Monday next, and connecting with trains from the above places. Twelve pipers are to head a procession from t!;e Railway Station to the Domain Ground, and the Committee report that everything in good going ©rdm Given fair weather on the 27th, that day promises to be a f'gala" day for Mangatainoka. A final meeting of the Committea will foe held to-morrow (Wednesday) evening.
STOCK MARKET. Messrs L'algety and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their stock sale at the Mangahao road yards to-day;— £There was no sheep, but a fair yarding of cattle. We report a total Clearance. Springing heifers realised 71s to 90s, dairy cows 60s to 91s; store cows 52s to 665, yearling heifers '94a,.yearling steers 32s 6d to 355, 2 jfco 2£-year steers 75s to 77s 6d. 1 The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report having held their weekly sale in Messrs Dalgety and Co.'s yards yesterday. There was a fair yarding of sheep and cattle, prices for sheep being on a par with pievious sales, laut cattle were somewhat irregular in price. They quote:—2 tooth wthers 8s lJd, 2 tooth . ewes 12s, f.rn. ewes 8s 3d, 2 year steers £3 10a, 18 month steers £2 18s. weaner calves £1 Is, dairy cows £2 17s 6d, to £4, Mills £2 255. The next sale will be held in the P.F.A. yards on the 11th January, 1910. Messrs Abraham And Williams, | Ltd., report o.i their Pahiatua sale to-day:~zVVe submitted a, moderate entry of sijeep and a large entry of
cattle. The bulk of the sheep and cattle changed hands at satisfactory prices. Two tooth wethers 9s 2d to 10s Id ; 2 tooth ewes 12s lid; dry ewes 9s to 93 2d; ewes and woolly lambs, all counted, lis lOd; 20 month steers £3 14s; 15 month steers £2 16s; forward store cows £3 to £3 9s; fat cows £4 8s 6d; store cows £2 8b 6d; 15 month dairy heifers £2 7s 6d to £2 12s 6d springing cows 6d, £6 5s to £6 15s, springing heifers £4 5s to £5 10s, speyed forward heifers £4 la; bulls £2 to £3 10s; yearling heifers 32s 6d. steers 355.
