PERSONAL.

Mr E. G. Allen, ex-M.P. for Chalmers, died on Saturday afternoon. He leaves a daughter and three sons. The late Mr Allen first entered Parliament in 1896, and represented the constituency until last year, when he was defeated at the Second Ballot. He resided in Port Chalmers for over 30 years, and took an active interest in the welfare of the district. He was Mayor of the Borough for about eleven years, and has been chairman of the Dock Trust for 19 years, and a member of the Harbour Board since 1888.
