From Our Resident! Reporter. Saturday. Miss Morten, who lias been acting Telieving teacher at the Carterton High School, received the following testimonial from the committee on completing her duties:—"The committee of the Carterton High School cordially and unanimously place on record their high appreciation of the faithful and efficient service rendered by Miss Morten, 8.A., daring the several months she has acted as substitute teacher in the secondary department of the High School. The committee specially recognise the high moral tone Miss Morten has tried to foster, her unflagging interest in all the life of the pupils, and wish her the utmost success and happiness in all her future career." As a mark of respect to the late King Leopold, the flag was flown at half-mast on the Post Office tower to-day. The weekly parade of the local volunteers was held last evening, when the omen were put through field work on the Recreation Reserve. The next parade is to be held the first week in January. Mrs H. Wilson's special prize, consisting of a neatly bound copy of Longfellow's poems, to .the local school, was awarded to Beryl Armstrong for diligence, proficiency, and good conduct. The United Friendly Societies' Council hold a special meeting on Tuesday evening, to consider an application from one of the Lodges ifor -a grant from the Benevolent Fund ifor one of its brethren, who has been lill for a considerable period. A dance is to be held at ClarevUle on New Year's Eve. The two pupil teachers at the local school, Misses Herdman and Armstrong, presented Miss Broadbent with a piece of silverware at the

closing of the school for the holidays, as a token of their gratitude for the care and .attention bestowed on them by Mies Broadbent in her position aH sewiing mistress.
