SUNDAY DRILL.
The tendency of the Defence Department to practise military tions on Sunday will probably yet attract the" attention of those who aro easily aroused when things are dor e which aro not in accordance with a proper observance of the Sabbath. A staff "ride" for Wellington Garrison officers will take place to-morrow, Sunday. There are no doubt some good reasons why the "ride" should take place, at the same time, Sunday drill, as a general rule, would be a mist«kt\ The tendency to treat Sun
day the same as if it were an ordinary week day calls for strong opposition. "The day of rest" is simply invaluable to the gnjat mass of the people from both a social ai d physical point of view. Apart altogether from any question of religiun, and viewing the matter from a purely material point of view, the people of this country would be extremely foolish to allow "Sunday" to be destroyed. If anything approaching the Continental Sunday were introduced into New Zealand tho3e respinsible would eventually regret their action, as well as all classes ot the community in general.
