PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Oar Resident Reporter). Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Dunning and Mr S. Dunning have arrived back in Pahiatua from their extended trip to the Old Country, all looking well and t earty, and apparently much beneSited by their holiday. At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, last evening, Mr A. Weston was re-elected secretary, and the following members were elected a roliday committee: —Messrs J. K. . arpenter, C. E. Clifton, A. S. Evans, L T. Herbert, V. Prosser ,ndJ, W. Sturton. This committee will meet to-morrow (Wednesday) evening to arrange the holidays for ■Jie ensuing year. The annual meeting of the Starr3owkett Society will be held in St. ,/eter's Schoolroom, on the 20th inst., at 8 p.m. The fifteenth appropri- : cion of £3OO will also be drawn by La Hot on that evening. Mr W. Inglis Husband, land and Citate agent, reports the sale of the Allowing properties during this veek:—MrC. Potter's 100 acres at Caitawa, to Mr C. H. Jowers; Mr J. IcDavitt, 100 acres, at Waione, to Mr J. Westlake; and Mr G. W. West's 200 acres,at Mangatiti, to Mr ./. McDavitt. All the previous Hospital Trustees ave been re-elected and Mr J. D. jVilson has been re-elected chairman. I understand that Mr H. Thomas, accountant, of this town, has been amporarily appointed secretary of tne Mangarama Co-operative Cheese Factory. STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercanile Agency Co., Ltd., held their weekly sale in the P.F.A. Yards, to:lay, and report as follows: —We had 3 full yarding of cattle and a fair yarding of sheep, prices being on a par with late sales. We quote: ;3mpty ewes, shorn, to 8s 6d;, 2-tooth ■wethers, shorn, small, 8s lid. Cattle: Yearling steers, £?, to £2 ss; yearlong to 15-month heifers, £2 12s to £ii 2s 6d; 2-year steers, £3 to £3 14a; 3-year steers, £4 to £5; dairy cows, £4 4s to £6 10s; empty cows. £2 13s to £3; fat cows, £3 12s 6d zo £4 10s; bulls, £2 10s to £3 10s. ,!\ 2-tootb ewe put up on account of i.'ie hospital was sold and re-sold, and •ealised between four and five rounds. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their P.F.A. sale of to-day as follows:—We had only a small yarding of sheep and a good yarding of cattle, prices being on a par with last week's rates. We quote —2-year steers, £3 15s; yearling steers, £2 6s; cows and calves, £3 '4a; empty cowa, £2 15s to £3 7s 3d; store cows, £2 to £2 9s 6d; fat LAfera, £4 Is to £4 7s fid; empty forward heifers, £3 12s to £3 13s; Springing heifers, 42s to 455; cows jjp milk, £5 to £6 2s 6d-, young fceifers running with bull, £2 14s 6d; jbulls, *£2 to £2 15s.

The contractors, Messrs Whittaker bmd Robertson, have, made, a start to Ei 2ct the new police quarters. Great interest is beirig taken in the chopping competition at the forthcoming sports on Boxing Day, and this event promises to be one of the main features of the Show. Good Ei; tries have been received for the yarious competitions, and everything augurs well for a successful meeting.
