THE ABATTOIR CHARGES.

(To the Editor)

Sir.—Th2 abattoir charges for killing pigs are a little curious when the price charged to local butchers is compared with those extended to the Wairarapa Bacon Factory. The butchers, who are responsible for the maintenance of the abattoirs, and who, collectively, have more pigs killed during the year than the Bacon Factory has during the season, have to pay 2s 6d pur head fur whilst the Bacon Factory gets in at Is Bd. This if certainly an injustice to the butchers, <ind one which the Borough Council should remedy. The Bacon Factory pigs, too. are usually much more weighty than butchers' pigs, and thus require more handling.—l am, etc, F. BUTCHER.
