Rev. R. Hermonhas resigned the parochial district of Patea and Waver i ley,and has been appointed by his Lord ship, the Bishop of Wellington, to ... i the parochial district of , .Manga-I tainoka, near Pahiatua. Mr Hermon j enters upon his new sphere of work.j > on January 16th. Palmerston North will probably lose the ministrations of the Rev. : Isaac Jolly, Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly. The Kev. Jolly, who for the past eight and a-half years has occupied the pastorate of St. Andrew's, has received a call from St. Stephen's Ponsonby, Auckland, and at the invitation of the Northern congregation, will preach .sin their church on December 19th. Mr William Thomas Goodge, perhaps the beat known writer of humorous verses in Australia, died in the ' Royal North Shore Hospital a few days ago at the age of 47. Mr Goodge, who was formerly a resident ••of Orange, contributed light verse to many Australian publications, • and his name was known and his work looked for by a large circle of readers. He left a widow. Mr Daniel Grove, whose father v was a batteiy-owner at the Thames in the early days, and a member of the Auckland Provincial Council, has been elected first president of the South African Union Club, which has been formed to promote the union of the white races throughout South Africa. In a letter to Mr W. J. Napier, of Auckland, Mr Grcva says:—"This country is on the eve ■of vast developments, both with regard to mining, agriculture and stock farming, and I think in ten years' time the last trace of racial animosity will have disappeared through the intelligent awakening of all classes to a dense of the import- . ance of a united nationality." Mr Reid, of Greymouth, has been appointed postmaster at Carterton vice Mr John Brown, resigned. He is expected to arrive at Carterton ■ to-day.
