TURF NOTES,
(By "Zetland''). Mr C. B. Pharazyn's Longner haff joined H. Fletcher's team at Tauherenikau. The other members of the stable are Silken Rein, who by the wa;' is not being well treated by the handicappers just now, Gold Bird, Aboriginal, Purakati and Swallow. The present favourites for the Auckland Cup are Advocate, Ngapuka, Aberbrolhock and Taskmaster, and for the Railway Handicap, the most fancied candidates are Salute, Lady Medallist, Riliadim and Full Sail. The nominations for the Manawat i Racing Club's meeting are disappointing, especially as regards the number of contestants entered. Taking the stake money into consideration, the Club deserves better support. and it is rather surprising to find the Rangititcei Club receiving: about as many nominations for two days' events as thd Manawatu have for three days. The Wairarapa-bred gelding Hika—toa, by Strathbraan —Blue Bell, has been handicapped to carry 13st in a hack event at the Cheviot meeting. Nominations for the Wairarapa Racing Club's meeting are due tonight, and a good response from owners and trainers is confidently expected. Sir George Clifford has sold Thistledown and Stratagem to Otago racing men. Both should do well at. country meetings. A Masterton sportsman has parchased Knight Commander and be is now a member of W. Garret's This trainer scored a win at Woodville on Wednesday, when Sir Sold scored in the Maiden Hack Race. Moloch ran his best race this season in the Woodville Handicap, one mile and a quarter. Mataari set a very solid pace throughout, but Moloch was always close to him. Entering the straight he gaiued a slight advantage, and halt-way down was in front. Nearing the post Paisano put in a very determined run, but Moloch, very capably ridden by R. Hatch, kept to his work very gamely and scored by a head. Feu de Joie, winner of the Hack Hurdles at Woodville, was bred by Mr John Cotter, of Grey town. The Torpedo mare shows promise of racing well in even better company than she has so far competed in.
WAIRARAPA NOMINATIONS.
Nominations for all event* to be run at the Wairarapa Racing Club's summer race meeting on January Ist and 3rd next, close with the secretary, Mr E. A. Laery, Featherston, at 8 o'clock to-niglat.
