Daniel Cruickshank, employed en the Midland Railway works in the vicinity of the Cass, beyond Broken River, met with a serious accident to-day. He w&s running out a truck which went over the end of an embankment taking him with it. He fell a distance of thirty or forty feet, and the trcuk landed on top of him. His injuries were so serious that he was removed to the Christcburch Hospital. Elizabeth Rice, aged 74, died suddenly to-day at Kaiapoi, of heart disease Tha constable at Little River reports in connection with the drowning fatality at the mouth of the Rakaia river that after searching the beach north of the river no traces of the bodies were found.
