Mr :Saunders says that Captain Scott, who is organising another South "Polar expedition for next year, will probably be accompanied by some nf the members of the Shackleton expedition. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mrs Bennett, wife of Mr William Bennett, of Tapia, Landdowne. The deceased lady,,; .who was 67 years of age, was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W. Brookes carried off the Davis jjhap at the recent tennis champion"l Ship in Sydney, arrived in Wellington on Wednesday by the Marama. Speaking of the contest, Mr Wilding says it was a very fine one, but the Australasians held their own against the Americans all the time. The latter uve a trifle young yet, but inexperience was, in the main, the cause of their opponents' downfall. Brookes was.in his best form for the cup; he is a marvellous volleyer, with a bunch of bewildering serves, and in this, Mr Wilding believes, lies the secret of Brookes' dominance. The New Zealand delegate to the tennis conference, Piolessor Hunter, did much, says Mr Wilding, towards healing the breach between - Australia and New Zealand.
