TREASURER'S STATEMENT.

Received December 8, 11 a.m. MELBOURNE, December 8.. The Federal Treasurer, in his Financial Statement, stated that as the result of the agreement reached between the- Commonwealth and the States, also increases in the Customs and Postal revenue?, and by saving, he hop?d to cut his estimated shortage of £1,200,000 for the year down to £300,000. Consequently tha Government did not intend to ask Parliament to issue Treasury bonds to cover the deficit, as proposed in the Budget, but when the time arrived to meet the liabilities the Government -would make temporary arrangements.
