Ewington, W. Pragnell, F. W, Temple, T. G. Hoar, Jas. Elliot and J, Pauling and it. Rigg. • WORKS AND FINANCE. The Works and Finance Committee's report stated: —• "Accounts totalling .£633 6s 7d as set out in orders on treasurer book were sub mitted and passed for payment. The secretary of the Wairarapa Swimming Club (Mr E. McEwen), and Messrs Pryor and Cuilen waited upon the Committee to urge reasons why the Council should vary the terms of its resolution on minuted No. 402 of the 23rd day of November, 1909 After considerable discussion the Committee recommend that by way of notice of motion the proposal be varied making the charge for the exclusive use of Park grounds and lake and buildings [for Anniversary Day and evening £lO, on the understanding that if the Club make a loss the Council will consider an application for a refund of some portion of the charge. The Committee have considered a report upon a certain licensed cab driver and have instructed the Town Clerk in conformity with the by-laws to give the person notice to attend a meeting of the Council to show cause why the license issued to him should not be cancelled. The attention of the Committee having been called to the fact that the special committee appointed to report upon the carters' by-laws had failed to do so, this Committee have instructed the Town Clerk to intimate to the Councillor responsible for the formation of the Com mittee that unless such Committee report to the next Council meeting that the Committee would be dissolved," The Town Clerk and Borough report to the Committee stated-"I have given Mr R. Johnston a permanent water supply to his paddock at a point near the intersection of Nursery road with Johnston street. This has been effected by means of a cement trough fed from the town creek with a four-inch pipe and an overflow pipe so regulated as to give a depth of of some tan inches by fifteen inches, six feet long, and this should satisfy any reasonable requirements. I have seen Mr Johnston, and tolu him what I proposed to do, and I think he will now be quite satisfied, as he will b2 in a position to obtain water in his trough so long as there is water in the town creek, and tne possibility of there being no water in the town creek must be very remote indeed." An application from Mr Joseph Dixon for the lease of the Fire Police building was referred to the Library Committee. The Masterton County Council noti-
fiud that they proposed to levy upon the Borough half the cost of the erection of the two Waipoua bridges. Cr Pauling said he thought the Council had only agreed to pay half the cost of a specific amount. The Mayor said that it had been agreed to pay half of .£5,000, but it was difficult to specify whst the exact amount was. The Council decided to instruct the Borough Solicitor to represent them in the matter.
