MOTHERS' PLUCKY ATTEMPT AT RESCUE.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WAIKOA, December 7. With regard to the drowning case on Saturday at, Mangaruhe, the evidence showed that the child was playing and fell in. The mother pluckily jumped into the flooded river and rescued the body, a quarter of a mile from the scene of the accident. The parents are half-castes, and their grief was so great that they forgot to report the matter to the police, who arrived as the body was about to be buried. A verdict of accidental death was returned, and a rider drawing attention to the laxity of the natives in repnrting sudden deaths.
