MEETING DEMANDS FOR COAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. WESTPORT, December 6. The coal miners in the Wcstport d strict are cheerfully and successfully seconding the effort of the companies to meet the pressure in the demands for coal. At Ngakawau the men make no objection to working on pay Saturday. The Seddonville and Granity miners are briskly employed at Denniston. On Friday another daily record was established, the output for ihe day for one shift being 1,573 tons. The waterside men at Westport are working ove> time, and it is only in one or two isnlated cases that any objection hj: s been made. Although a targe quantity of coal is being handled, the railway is moving the mineral s nartly, and there has not befn the slightest congestion in shipping. The cooperation of all concerned is a gratifying feature of the rush. The pace of production, haulage, and shipment will go a long way to prove that New Zealand can supply all her own coal demands. The output from the Westport Coal Conuany's mines during November was 51.761 tons llcwt; Seddonville State Mine, 6,142 tons lowt; Stockton Company, 13,863 tons 5 cwt; total, 71,766 ton Is 7cwt.
