MASS MEETING OF I MINERS. GOVERNMENT ACTION CONDEMNED. United Press association—By Klectric Tclegraih Copyright. Received December 6, 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, December 6. A mass meeting of miners was held at Newcastle. It was addressed by Mr Bowling and other leaders. A motion condemning the Government action was carried. Everything passeci off quietly. The Railway and Tramway Association has refused to countenance a general strike-mania or the Bowling type of leader. I" voting money for strike purposes the association has it ear-marked for specific use. ARRESTED MEN BAILED OUT.
Received December 6, 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, December 6. Mr Hughes, declares that the arrests of Mr Bowling and others will enoimously complicate the situation. All the leaders arrested were bailed out within a few hours. The offence of conspiracy for which the men were arte?ted is alleged to have been conrnitted on November sth. This was the date on whi:h the delegate to the board recommended the strike. The police visite I the Trades Hail and secured a lart;e number of documents and a minute-book relating to the proceedings on November sth. Received December 6, 10.50 p.m. SYDNEY, December 6. The Dorset strike was due to a misapprehension on the part of the men that a general strike had been ordered. They res lined work in the afternoon. Mr Lewis, Treasurer of tie Northern -Miners' Federation, has been arrested. Those arrested on Saturday appeared at the Newcastle Court, to-dny, and were remanded till to-morrow. Received December 7, 12.40 a.m. SYDNEY, December 6. An important meeting of the Waterside Workers to-night expressed confidence in the Strike Committee, and resolved to continue work. There was a strong feeling at the outset to put down tools, but Mr Hughes succeeded in convincing them to continue work. , !
