MENACE OF MEDIOCRITY.
Labour legislation has made mediocrity the standard of workmanship; to this belongs the standard wage, and nothing beyond the average mediocrity is negotiable, remarks the Auckland "Herald." Need we wonder that superiority in any department of the national life comes to be resented or ignored? Not the original man, the man who excels, who stands head and shoulders above his fellows, has the best chance of honour, but the man who has most skilfully reduced himself to the common denominator of mediocrity.
