INTERESTING FIGURES.

To the Ulerk of the Ma sterton Magistrate's Court (Mr M. Foley) we are indebted for some interesting figures in regard to the number of convictions recorded during the months of October and November, 1909. The total number of convictions for the period mentioned was twentythree, and for the corresponding months during 1908 there were no less than 94 convictions recorded. In October last two persona were convicted of drunkenness, and two during last month, whilo in October, 1908, 26 convictions for drunkenness were recorded, and in the following November of the same year 29 similar convictions appear on the record. There were thus fifty-five convictions for drunkenness during October and November, 1908. as opposed to four during the corresponding periods of 1909. After deducting the offences of drunkenness from the] total for each period mentioned we find there were 19 convictions mora rdcordedjn 1908 than in 1909, and in November last seventeen parsons were found guilty of offences, and six in the preceding October. Apart from drunkenness and breaches of prohibition orders, there seems to have been a rather more formidable list of offences dealt with last month than in November, 1908. Last mc nth three persons were convicted of theft, four for sly grog selling, two for insulting language, one for behaving in an insulting manner, one for obscene language, one for breach of Ihe peace, one for drunk and disorderly, two for cruelty to horses; total, 15, while in November. 1908, conviotions were recorder! as follows:

Theft, two; assault, one; obscene language, four; total, 7.
