Dairy farmers are reminded that the entries for the dairy cow com petition will close wi'.h the secretary of the A. and P. Association to-mor-row (Tuesday) night. A shock of earthquake was rcporte 1 to have been felt here last evening, at about 9.45 o'clock. The Boy Scouts mustered in full force yesterday morning, and after parading attended service in the Presbyterian church. Mr W. Say em has just removed into his fine large and up-to-date residence in Main Street South. The building, besides being a modern structure, has also been built for comfort and is high and dry, the floor being two feet r.ine inches from the ground. The section is also very diy. An inspection of the house showed the interior of the building to excel the outside; the steel ceilings in all the rooms (six large and four small) looking particularly cosy at d attractive, Tin' < i"irg \» *-i very spacious one, being 24ft by 17ft Gin, and all through the house, is evidence of good workmanship and the latest conveniences.
The Hawke's Bay Dairy Companys butter factory at Mangatainoka is now turning out 85 boxes of butter per day. Cream is being sup plied to this factory by several creameries, including three at Woodville. These three are receiving «bout 3,500 gallons of milk daily, the one at Pinfold Road being responsible for more than half this amount, The average test at this Company's creameries is about 4.6.
WOUDVILLE NOTES. The Woodvilla racecourne is now in first-class order, and given fine Weather on the Bth and 9th inst., splendid racing should be witnessed. The nominations are good, and although the present railway timetable will by that time be altered, yet it will be convenient for patrons from Manawatu, Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay. The wel-known- stallion "Morning Herald," owned by Mr O. Somervi lie, dropped dead on Saturday rooming. About 1,800 gallons of milk are being received daily at the Woodville cheese factory from 36 suppliers, the average test being about 3.65. On Saturday 150 cases of cheese were railed away. The reservoir has just received a good overhauling. I understand that the only local horse running at the races is Fatronite, which was bred by a Masterton resident. The Presbyterian Church will be quite a handsome structure when finished. The steeple is 84 feet in height. It is stated that a wedding between a popular couple, will take place in this church shortly. Another wedding of local interest is to take jlace to-morrow.
