NEW RAILWAY TIMETABLE.
THE WAIRARAPA SERVICE. ADDITIONAL DETAILS. A summary was given yesterday by the "New Zealand Times" of the proposed alterations in tne running of trains on the North Island rail • ways which will come into force on December 6th. On and after that date the Welli.igton-Napier express will go via the Manawatu line. Wairarapa train services have been so revised that residents in every part of the Wairarapa will be able to visit Palmerston North ar.d return the same day, and it will also be possible to make a connection via Palmerston North with all the important trunk trains to New Plymouth and the north. It will be difficult, says the "Times," to find a vestige of the old Wairarapa timetable when the new service comes into operation on December 6th. Every surviving train has some modification, while there are a number completely new, providing the much needed long distance connections. The following have disappeared altogether:— Woodville-Masterton, 9.40 a m. Woodville-Wellington, 2.15 p.m. Welfington(Lambton)-Napier mail. Napier-Wellington(Lambton),mail. Wellington-Woodville, 4.45 a.m. Matserton-Woodville, 8.2 a.m. Masterton-Woodville, 3.26 p.m. As a substitute for the old mail train which left Lambton station at 8.20 for the Wairarapa and Napier, a train wilt leave at 7.50 a m., stopping where required, except between Lower and Upper Hutt, and reaching Woodville at 2.20. Napier bound passengers resume the journey 2.35 p.m., arriving Napier at 8.43 p.m., or they may wait until 4.35 p.m., andreach Napier at.9.20 p.m.
The train which now leaves Masterton at 6.30 a.m will start from Gross Creek at 5.25 a.m., Featherston 6.5, Carterton 6.55, Masterton 7.45, Pahiatua 9.55, arriving Woodville 10.25 a.m., and connect with a Napier train which will take passengers to Palmerston anj connect wi*h the up New Plymouth and Auckland expresses.
The 7 a.m. train from Masterton will leave half an hour later, an.l reach Wellington at 11.55 instead of 11 28. The 6.10 a.m. Woodville to Wellington train will start at 8.15 a.m., alter the arrival of a train from Palmerston North. I s main timings are: Pahiatua, 8.55, Eketahuna 10,5, Masterton 11.45, Carterton 12.30, Featherston 1.20 p.m., Wellingt'n arrive 5.28 p.m.
Though the Napier-Wellington express will be diverted through the Manawatu, it will be possible to continue the journey through tne Wairarapa by a train leaving Woodville at 1.20 p.m., Pahiatua 1.53, Masterton 3.48, Carterton 4 12, featherston 4.50, Wellington arrive 7.40 p.m. The 6.55 p.m. Woodvilk-Masterton train will start five minutes earlier and be extended to Cross Creek, which will be reached at 11.45 p.m. The subject of much earnest petitioning of the Railway Department has been u train which would enable Palmerston passengers, visiting the Wairarapa to return the same day. This important facility is provided by the present 9.55 a.m. train from Te Aro, which will change its timing after reaching the Summit, as follows:—Summit dep. 1.35 p.m., Featherston 3.18, Carterton 4.20, Masterton 5.45, Maui-iceville 6.40, Eketahuna 7.30, Pahiatua 8.56, Woodville 9.31 p.m., connecting with the evening train from Napier arriving at Palmerston North at 10.45 p.m. The present 3.45 p.m, train from Te Aro to Masterton will start nine minutes earlier, and reach its destination at 8 p.m.. instead of 8.30. On the Greytown branch, trains will connect with every main line train oxcept the 5.25 p.m. from Crosi Creek' and the 6.50 ex-Wood-ville, which pass the junction too late to be of murt service.
