Miss Mertet who has been mistress of the Ponatahi School for some time, lhas been appointed mistress at the Matarawa School. Constable late of Master'ton, who has been statinned in Fiji, for some time past, has returned to New Zealoiu 4 . He has rejoined ths Force, and is at piesent stationed in Wellington. Mr Charles Wm. Smith, a native ioI Denmark, died at Russell, on Tuesday. He was 105 years of age and settled in New Zealand in 1878. Previously he followed the sea and claimed that he landed on the coast 'between Cape Brett and Mongonui early in the twenties. A quiet wedding was celebrated at Carterton oh Wednesday, the contracting parties being Mr Douglas Roy Bailey, sixth son of Mr W. L. Bailey, a wfll known Taonui settler, and Miss Jesaie Mabel Cameron, eighth daughter ot Mrs C. Cameion, Rangitikei Line. The ceremony w«3 performed by the Rev. Father Bowe. only relatives bting present, owing to the recent serious illness of the bride's mother.
