THE LABOUR MARKET.
According to the Labour Journal of the current month, conditions have somtwi.at improved ov.r the pn
vious labour. There is still a considerable amount of unemployment existing amongst single men, who represent that they are not used to farm work, and do not care to go into tJigfWHMitryexcept for ordinary pick and shovel work. It i 3 expected that the Government road works to be put in hand shortly will absorb most of the deserving men now applying. The call for unskilled workers is increasine in the country districts, but in the town itself, although a much large*- number of men are employed than during; the winter season, conditions seem to improve very slowly indeed. The demand for dairy and agricultural labourers has increased durmg the period, and there is a difficulty at present to get men of the right stamp to accjpt this class of employment.
