WELLINGTON WOOL SALES.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, report as follows:—We held our first wool sale of the season in the Concert Room of the Town Hall on Friday last, when we offered "a catalogue of 1,087 bales out of a total catalogue of 3,004 bales from all brokers. The whole of our catalogue was sold under the hammer, except 12? hales. The highest prices realised by us were: —Five bales halfbred hoggets on account of J. Dalziel. Blenheim, llfd; 36 bales Romney-Lincoln crossbred wethers on account of L. H McHardy, Palmerston North. 12Jd; 11 bales Romney-Lincoln crossbred ewes on account of L, H, McHardy, Palmerston North, 12d; 3 balea crjssbred wethers on account of R. Nitz, Porirua, 12fd; 6 bales crossbred on account of R. F. Blair, Otaki, ll£d; 4 bales super crossbred on account H. V. Hammond, Ohau, ll£d; 10 bales fine crossbred, on account of H. V. Hammond, Ohau, lOd; 5 bales Romney hoggets, on account of Quinton Donald, Featherstun, lljd; 2 bales threequarter bred hoggets, on account of W. N. Waldin, Tans, llgd; 5 bales crossbred hoggets, on account of J. P. Harrison, Eketahuna, 11 Jd; 5 bales Romney wethers, on account of G. M. Currie, Kai Iwi, 12d; 2 bales halfbred, on account of A. Fleming. Blenheim, 12d; 11 baies halfbred, on account of E. F. Menlove, Blenheim, 12£ d; 5 bales greasy halfbred, on account of Christthurch Meat Company, Picton, 13±d; 8° bales fine crossbred on account of Christchurch Meat Company, Picton, llfd; 2 bales Rodney, on account of F. Meenken, Carterton, llfd; 22 bales crossbred wethers, on account of Pike and McKenzie, Masterton, lljd; 3 bales fine crossbred, on account of R. E. Bannister. Palmerston North, lljd; 3 bales Romney, on account of R. E. Bannister, Palmerston North. lljd. The total offering was 1,600 bales more than* the number offered at the corresponding sale of last year. An increased number of buyers were in attendance, and contained buyers from England, America and the Continent, an 1 also' local buyers. Competition was a very animated throughout the sale. Tne wool offerpd was of a much better quality, than that offered at the corresponding sale of last year, it being, with a few exceptions, very bright and light in greasp. Prices showed even a better improvement than those anticipated by brokers, due mainly to the keen competition of the buyers for the American market. As compared with the corresponding sale of
last year, prices showed a considerable increase of from 2d to 4d per lb, the range of prices being as follow: —Greasy halfbred 12d to 13£ d; super crossbred, lljd to 12fd; medium crossbred, B£d to 10£ d; inferior crossbred, 6fd to 8d; bellies and piece?, 5d to 7|d; stained pieces and locks, 2d to sd* dead, to 7|d; crutchingd,. 4Jd to 5Jd. We will hold our next sale on Friday, 3rd December, at 9 a.rn Messrs Abraham and Wit iams. Ltd report on their wool sale as follows: Wool buying houses at Home. America, and the Continent were well repiesented, and a spirited sale resulted. There was strong competition for all lines offered; especially was this' so for wools suitable for America, These wools we estimate sold at quite fourpeiice per lb above rates ruling at this time last year, and ordinary medium qualities about 2&d per lb higher Bellies and pieces met with strong competition. The total, offering by all brokers was nearly thr«e thousand bales, which is double the quantity offend at the first sale Issc year. Generally, the wool opened up in splendid condition, carrying very little grease, and being well grown. Our best saie to-day was for seven bales of fine crossbred, Opawe over CE, which realised 12fd. Some of our sales were as follows:—HHH over K, 11 bales, fine crohsbred, ll|d; log stained, 8d; bellies and picees, 6£d; HJAB, 5 bales, medium crossbred, lljd; 14 bales, hoggets, 9£d; YV, 15 bales Romney. 11 Jd; F rev. HB conj. in Diamond, 6 hales, fine crossbred, WJB, 9 bales, medium crossbred, 10£ d; KJC over KARA, 5 bales, medium crossbred, 9fd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report as tollows:—The Associated Brokers held the first sale of the season to-day in the Town Hall, Wellington, when they submitted some 2,500 bales, of which our catalogue totalled about 450 bales. Owins? to unfavourable weather interfering with shearing operations not so much wool came forward as was anticipated. There was an exceptionally large attendance of buyers, representing American andjGontinental operators, and the usual Home and Colonial buyers. The clip is well grown and fairly sound considering the excessively
wet weather experienced during tin latter part of the winter. Bidding was spirited, and showed an advance of 25 to 35 per cent, on opening rates of last season, and some excellent prices were obtained, amongst the most notable being: EJR over CHELTENHAM, Romney rams, ll|d; PME, medium cros3~ bred, 9d to 9Jd; POUTATAU, super crossbred, llfd; REHU, coarse crossbred, 7Jd; GREENBANK, Romney hogget, 10£ d: WK, medium crossbred, to 10£ d; AWAPIRIPIRL crossbred hoggets, 8d to lOd; TT over T, super crossbred, lljd; FKover OTARI, fine crossbred, 9Jd to lid:; TN, coarse crossbred, Bid; OKIWI, medium crossbred, 7|d to lOJd; IK, medium crossbred, 10£ d; CHANCET, half bred, 10 Jd to HJd;TG over R, fine crossbred, lljd; CO over P, super crossbred, 12d.
