BOMB OUTRAGE.

NARROW ESCAPE OF LORD AND LADY MINTO. BOMBS FAIL TO EXPLODE. United Pres- As.-ocmion— Dy Telegrap Copyright. Received November 15, 9.10 p.m. CALCUTTA, November 15. As Earl and Lady Minto. who are visiting Ahmedabad (chief town of a district in Guzerat, second amongst the cities of the province of Bombay) were driving from the station and nearing the Raipur Gate, a Hindoo in the dense crowd was seen throwing missies, which proved to be two bombs. A sergeant in the Enniskillen Dragoons, who was riding alongside the carriage, cleverly intercepted the first bomb with his sabre. The second bomb hit the Viceroy's servant, who was holding an umbrella over Lady Minto, and fell harmlessly to the ground. The soil in the neighbourhood is sandy, which explains the failure of the bombs to explode. __ Quite unmoved by the incident, Lord and Lady Minto drove on, completing the prearranged drive through the city. A sweeper picked up one of the bombs, and broke it against a car, the explosion shattering one of his hands. The other bomb did not explode and was found in the vicinity. Both bombs were of a cocoanut pattern and contained picric acid. After the outrage special precautions were taken to safeguard the Viceroy. Vigorous inquiries are proceeding as to the identity of the native who threw e bombs.
