THE LICENSING LAW.
FIFTY-FIVE HUNDREDTHS
MAJORITY.
INTERESTNG FIGURES. What electorates would have carried No-License at the last polling had the fifty-five-hundredths majority only been needed instead of the three fifths majority as at prasent? That is the question which will occur to many on conning over the proposed amendments to the Licensing Act. The undermentioned are the electorates which carried Continuance, but would have lost it under the new provosal (a 55-100ths majority) :
On the above figures (assuming that the votes cast for Reduction were equally divided), Wellington and Otago and Southland would, gays the "Dominion," have carried NoLicense had the proposed majority basis been in operation last year. The percentage for the whole of the Dominion in favour jot JNo-License wis 53.45.
