CARTERTON NEWS.

Friday. ■ The building in High street, which is now known as the Settlers' Club, is being re-painted. Mr Georgesou, Inspector of Factories, was on an official visit to Carterton yesterday. There was a large attendance at the anniversary social of the Dalefield Methodist Church, last evening, the Rev. W. J Elliott presiding. The programme was opened with a pianoforte solo by the Misses Nielson, followed by an anthem by the choir and orchestra, and songs by Misses Bambry and Whyte. The report and balance sheet was presented by Mr Geo. Gordon, secretary of the Trust, after which the programme was co.it ; nued, with an item by the choir and oichestra; song, Miss Bremer; reading, Miss West; song, Mr T. W. Foster; recitation, Mr G. W Pittendreigh; song, Miss Waterson; anthem, choir and orchestra; song, Mr W. Stevens; recitation, Miss West, anthem, choir and orchestra. The fine concerted singing and playing of the choir and orchestra under tha baton of Mr R. Crawley, was greatly appreciated. Misses Butler, Nielson and Kilmar tin played the accompaniments, and the ladies of the congregation provided tasty refreshments. Mr and Mrs H. H. Wolters arrived home last evening, and were welcomed by a number of friends who had assembled at the station to greet them.
