Tuesday. PAHIATUA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening. There were present,—Mr D. Crewe (Mayor), "and Cre. T. Hewar, J. B. J. W. Sturton, T. Boyd, V. P. Davidson and G. Hawh j y Drew, The Mayor was appointed delegate to the Wairarapa District Hospital Board, and the Pahiatua Hospital Trustees.
Mr H. Vile waited on the Council in connection with the storm water from the Council's roads, which he said was running on to his property in the Mangahao Road, ai.d there remaining stagnant. The Mayor said that the matter could be remedied. The Mayor and Crs Sturton. Hare and Boyd were appointed a committee to go into the matter.
Mr W. Norrell sent in his resignation as a councillor owing to hia leaving the district. Mr J. Godso also resigned his position on tha Library Committee for a sftm'ar reason.
The Borough Overseer r» ported that the protection work above the bridge had been completed, ai d was standing well. He alsc suggested protective works being put in at the river bank near the cemetery, which was in danger, and submitud plans showing what was necessary. The Work? and Cemetery Committee were deputed to hold a confreence on the site, and report to the next Council meetii g.
On the motion of the Mayor, it was | decided to charge all non rateable properties in the Borough 30s per annum for the water supply. In connection with the water supply at the Hospital, the Mayor stated that no arrangement had yet been arrived at. and he would like to see the matter fixed up. It was stated that a charge was made to such institutions by other boroughs. Or Wostlake said that the ratepayers could not afford to give the water to the Hospital for noth--ing. The matter was keenly discussed and it was resolved to write to the Trustees, asking huw much water they would require per annum. The matter of improvements to the Fire Brigade shed was also discuss?d, and the plan submitted was considered too elaborate and was referred back to the committee.
In consideration of tht Borough Overseer now doing surveying work and drawing out plans, his wages were raised Is per day. All the Councillors speak highly of the good work Mr Parker was doing for the Borough. Reference was made to making a start to tar and sand more footpaths, and this work will be commenced as soon as the dry weather sets in, as it was considered useless doing the work unless the ground was perfectly dry. urdinary accounts amounting tT £ll3 16s 7d, and loan £29 12s 4d, were passed for payment. GENERAL. Mr T. Hewat will make a start with the imDrovements to the Mangatainoka Library Hall on Thursday next.
