FIREWORKS DISPLAY.

The Masterton Park presented quite an animated apppearance, last , evening, the occasion being the demonstration of the Miramar Firei works, under the direction of Mr J. • Hopkins. The attendance was a very large one, and those present ; were treated to a .pyrotechical display, which easily excelled anything previously given in Masterton in the same line of entertainment. The programme opened with a series of moving pictures, the* subjects being all of a humorous nature, which highly amused tho9e present, , The second part ot the programme opened with an exhibition of fire-club swinging by Flamos, an item as dramatic as it was sensational.. A number of set pieces were then fired, the de- - signs being very beautiful; they followed each other with such rapidity that it became bewildering to retain a consecutive recollection of their exact order. A piece which found great favour with the audience was that representing 1 a butterfly. This was a very beautiful set, and was loudly applauded, as was also that depicting a peacock, which in turn gave way to a Star of Bethlehem. A very fine effect was produced by a piece set very high, and giving a very fair idea of a waterfall, the„brilliant sparks emitted by the fiery gerbs resembling sunshine playing on a miniature cascade. There were many their novelties introduced, one of the principal being a Scotch thistle, while the antics of a dancing skeleton and an acrobatic monkey were highly diverting to the juvenile element. The concluding item of the' display was a very realistic one, the subject being a battle between warships and forts. The effect was greatly enhanced by the explosion of several loud bombs representing large guns. The Masterton Municipal Band, which supplied the music, gave every satisfaction. The management announced that the next display will be given on the Carterton ', Showgrounds on Friday evening next.
