"THE CRAZE FOR THE SOMETHING NEW."
At the Y.M.C.A. yesterday afternoon, a good attendance of joung men gathered to hear an address by Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, of Cartarton, "The Uraze for the Som thing New." Mr D. McGregor, jnr,, occupied the chair, he also presiding at the strangers' tea which followed. The speaker had much t> say on many points, one of the oldest things in the world being vanity. Ganerally speaking, the craze for something new was hurtful, and he would say particularly in rtference to the new world. The regret of the older men of to-day concerning things in the literary world is the awful dnint'arestendess of the young men and wo men in good books. Then there is the craze to be in fashion, men and women alike being affected by it. New plays, problem plays, so-called., bruught forth bitter criticism, for it was hardly necessary to pourtray upon a public platform much that was shown, much that the average man already knew, and gritves one. Other new crazes were mentioned, dinners for dogs, clubs for women. The craze for the something new was encroaching upon the world of gardening. Mr Hornsby closed with an appeal to the men to stick to the old, to get hold of the blessing of regeneration, to know and believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the stranger's tea, several of those present spoke, and a hearty vote of thank was passed to the ladies of S. Matthew's Church for provid ing refreshments.
