CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.
Ihe monthly meeting uf the Cashpoint County Council was held on Saturday last. There were present —the chairman (Mr A. J. Speedy) and Cra. Richardson, Ryder and Innes. Mr C. F. Richardson, junr., applied for a grant in aid to repair the track from Waitawhiti to Anned;de, and erect a small shed on the road at Antiedalo. Mr Barton forwarded a copy of letters to the contractor for Contract No. 33, in respect to the bridge at Wild Bull creek being on too high a level, and the alteration of two culverts at Manukaroa. The secretary to the Wairarapa District Hospital Board forwarded a copy of the legal opinion on the question of demand made for a contribution to the Victoria Hospital for the current year. Mr D. C. Cameron applied for a further extension of time to complete his contract owing to bad weather, and scarcity of pick and shovel men, and a progress payment of £3O. Mr H. Toogood wrote on the question of getting a pound for pound grant from the Government towards improving Spring Hill Road; and also asking that the road be repaired In the meantime. It was agreed to obtain Mr J. Mc(Jalmont to make repairs to the jetty at Castlepoint, and that the Council take over the assets and liabilities of the Castlepoint Kiver Board. The chairman was appointed to represent the Akitio, Mauriceville and Castlepoint Counties on the Wairarapa District Hospital Board. The question of appointing a surface man for the Whakataki Valley and Castlepoint Raad was discussed and left with the clerk / to arrange. Mr Richardson"s request to erect a small shed on the roadside near Annedale woolshed was agreed to, and five per cent, of his rates .was allowed as a grant in aid towards improving the track. It was decided to ask Mrs Andrew if she will sell five acres 6t' land ad' joining Mr ColJarton's farm, on which to erect a roadman's cottage. It was decided to advise Mr J. H. Cameron that the road to Rewa Kewa ircm the Tenui-Manawa road must be dedicated to the Crown, otherwise only five per cent, of his rates will be suspended in repaire. The clerk wag directed to make an inspection of the several leneths of road to be metalled, and where suitabte metal, is found available to call for tenders to close next meeting of the Council It was decided tfrask Messrs Stillborn Bros, if they had any objection ' to the broken stone being taken to repair the road on the north side ot the hill from their homestead. Accounts amounting to £248 13s 8d were examined and passed for payment.
