ACCLIMATISATION MATTERS.
DEPUTATION' WAIT ON MINISTERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 5. The Minister of Marine told a deputation from the Acclimatisation conference that he had no intention of sending a man Home every year to brii:g out ova. It was better and cheaper to send a man every two years, and let him bring a good supply back. He did not think there was, any necessity for importing quinnnat salmon ova as the Department was now stripping its own fish. The matter of the further working of the Portobello hatchery was under the consideration of th Government.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, replying to the same deputation, said that the question of removing protection from atoats and weasels would receive early attention. It was his intention to permit the importation of little German grey owls as requested, The use of machine guns was not sport, but to prohibit them would require legislation. He was not in favour of making the 1910 season an open one. Licenses for shooting deer were very erratic, some Associations charging £1 and others as much as £5. He hoped this matter would be considered at the next year's Conference. He would approach the stock office with a view of allowing stock inspectors to act as ranger in remote districts.
