From Our Resident Reporter. Thursday. The rain which has been experienced here of late, ai.d the heat of the sun which followed, has had a bad effect upon the road in High Street, which formed part of the street improvement work carried out last year. It is beginning to crack, and in parts is soft, so much so that the impression of wheels and horses hoofs are plainly visible.
Consequent upon the local bodie3 having guaranteed his salary, Inspector Miller has been re-appointed health officer for the Wairarapa. The Wellington Education Board has accepted the tender of Mr C. J. beard, of Greytown, for painting and repairs to the old school building here. Mr Beard also secured a similar contract for (jreytown, and for the teacher's residence at Dalefield. This afternoon being gloriously line, the members of the local Bowling Club spent an enjoyable few hours on the green. Yesterday afternoon several cyclists, who were making the footpath a road, were caught by the police, and will probably appear in the Magistrate's Court for riding their cycles on the footpath, contrary to the Borough by-laws. The fortnightly meeting of Court Marquis of Normanby, A.0.F., was heli last evening in the Foresters' Hdl. Bro. A. J. Fisher, C.R., presidio?. The Masterton Court Loyal Enterprise wrote expressing its appreciation of the good work done for the Order by Bro. P. Molloy, and regret at his departure, and wishing him success in the future. Court Inglewood Forest forwarded a travelling certificate in respect to one of their Brethren who was visiting the district. It was decided to assist the Oddfellows in the
presentation and social to Bro. P. Molloy Receipts for the meeting were £lO 8a 21, and disbursements £5 7s lOd. At the annual meeting of the Dalefield Methodist Sunday School, the following officers were elected for the ensuing term :—Superintendent, Mr C. Jones; Assistant, Mr E. Tunnicliffe; Secretary and Treasurer, Miss A. Jones; Organist, Miss L. Jones; Assistant, Miss A. Tunniclitt'e; cradle roll superintendents, Misses L. Jones and Gordon. It was decided to hold the annual picnic on New Year's Day, and the school anniversary in the second week in February. It was reported that the International Bible Reading Association had a membership of 36, which was an increase of six for the year.
