ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE,
By Telegraph —Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 4. The annual conference of the Acclimatisation Societies was held today. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr Tripp; Vice-Presi-dent, Mr Fitzroy; Council, Messrs Wilson, Taranaki; Hanan, Invercargill; Brown, Dunedin; Payton, Auckland; Earl, Auckland; Dr. Moorhouse, Canterbury; Chisholrn, Otago; Jones, Stratford; Rutherforud, South Canterbury; Liffeton, Wanganui; Lowe, Wellington; Pollard, Marlborough. A remit from Wanganui urging the Government to proclaim a close season in 1910 for all imported game other than deer throughout New Zea land, and for that one season hares to be declared game in those districts where they are not game, was negatived.
The Southland remit requesting the Government to remove protection from stoats and weasels throughout New Zealand was agreed to, with the addition of the words "in such district or portion thereof as the Acclimatisation Society or the local authority controlling same termine."
