One of the earliest settlers in the Levin Village Settlement, Mr Mat Evoy, died at Aucklai.d recently. The Kev. E. C. Tennent, of Port Chalmers, who has held the position, of pastor td the Presbyterian «*,hurch for 13J years, has decided to accept a call to Martinborouah, Miss Morrah, who has been for 17 years attached to the teaching staff of the Wellington College, has resigned on medical advice. The College Governors expressed the highest appreciation of Miss Morrah's services. News has been received at Chnatchurchof the success of a New Zealand actress in London. Miss Alice Pollard, a daughter of Mr Tom Pollard, and a native of Auckland, has just had the distinction og playing the leading role in "Our Miss Gibbs," at the Gaiety Theatre, in place of Miss Gertie Miller. Miss Pollard played the part at twenty minutes' notice. Five young New Zealanders will be ordained to the priesthood at Meanee on the 21st inst. for work in the Wellington Archdiocese. They are Messrs J. Eccleton, L. Dienan, M. Murphy, A. Burger and A. Venning. Early in December three other New Zealanders will be ordained for work in this diocese at the Mosgiel seminary. They are Messrs McMenamen and Connolly, of Hutt, and Mr L. Daley, of the West Coast. The Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand is now in the happy posi' tion of being able to get all its new clergy from this country, says the "'Napier Telegraph.''' There are in the Dominion two special training institutions for the priesthood, one at Meanee and the other at Mosgiel, and there are only two for the ■whole of Australia.
