Mrs A. Caselberg, of Mastertm, and her sons, have booked to 1 ave Sydney for London by the Otranto on March 16th.
Pastor Ries, Mayor of Dannevirke. who has been ill for some time past, is returning from Australia much im proved in health.
Miss Rosina Buckmann has been engaged by the Sydney Philharmonic Society for the performance of "Faust." The Professorial Board of Victoria College has selected Mr Robert Ken • nedy, B. A., as its candidate for the Rhodes scholarship Mr and Mrs D. M. Pitcaithley, of Eketahuna, left on Monday last for Onga Onga (Hawke's Bay), where they will take up their residence.
Mr H. Christie, of the Agricultural Department, left Eketahuna, yesterday, for Waipukurau, to which piace he has been transferred. Mr and Mrs 0. Somerville-Brown, of Masterton, leave for London by the Osterly, which sails from Sydney on February 16th.
At Mangamahoe, last week, Miss Rose Rehall, of Mangamahoe, was married to Mr Corbish'ey. Miss E Rehall and two little nieces of the bride were bridesmaids. The "Chronicle" announces the death of Mr Hugh Caldwell, of Makirikiri, who passed away on Thursday at the early age of 21 years. The deceased went to New South Wales a short time ago to engage in shearing and while so doing contracted a cold, which developed into lung disease, death ensuing at Balranald Hopsital.
To-day Sir John Logan Campbell, the Patriarch of Auckland, enters upon his 93rd year. Notwithstanding his great age he is still hale and active, with full mental capacity the only serious effect that age has had upon him being to slightly impair his eyesight and to somewhat affect his hearing. He still daily attends his office in the city. Mr Sparrow, of the London firm of Mills, Sparrow and Co., is at present on a visit to Carterton, writes our correspondent. Mr Sparrow came to New Zealand as one of the delegates of the Imperial Chambers of Commerce Conference, and during j his stay is taking the opportunity |to visit the various cheese factor-
ies, his firm being one of the largest dealers in New Zealand produce.
